For Hectic Moms – Tips To Make More Me-Time

3 easy ideas to light up your household

Ever thought of loadshedding as a remarkable opportunity to gather the family and engage in a way that is way more meaningful than sitting, staring at the TV every evening?

Here are three awesome ideas from TastyMoments on how to make light of darkness! All you have to do is to check your schedule on EskomSePush app (whoever thought of that name, huh?) and take a little time to prepare.

1. Pre-Charge Your Phones And The Boombox

Any time soon turns into party time if you have vibey music around. So, make sure you download some of your favourite tunes on your mobile and refresh them now and again. If you are lucky enough to have a portable, battery-powered speaker, this also needs to remain plugged in so that you guys can pump-up the volume during downtime.

Allow each member of the family to play one of their favourite upbeat songs – and enjoy. Time to teach your kids – or even your other-half – a bit of fancy footwork, neh?

TOP TIP: Freeze a couple of 2 water litre bottles and place in your fridge when the power goes out, it helps keep it cool and helps prevent food from spoiling.

2. Candlelight Is Magic-Light

No wonder that candles have been a symbol of spirituality and enlightenment for centuries. Candles are, still a cheap and cheerful way to light the way. So, make sure you stock up on the wax and have some safe candlesticks around. While you have light, you could read up on how to lead a meditation to calm and inspire everyone in the household, and teach them about the significance of fire in your culture. Or simply enjoy a candlelit meal.

This is also the ideal opportunity to teach the kids about fire safety. Place the candles well out of the range of the little ones, and on surfaces that are not flammable. Safety first.

3. Plan A Picnic Meal

Make life easy for yourself with a picnic. Pretend you’re in a park, even if you’re just in your living room. Grab some cold roasted chicken, a crunchy salad (to tick off the vitamin requirements) along with generous slices of their favourite pizzas (Ital Pizza is delicious hot or cold). Dinner is done. Since it’s cold, it may help to set aside a thermos of hot water for tea or coffee too.

So, with the happy music, candles – or even a fire if you have a fireplace – and a hearty meal at hand, we guess that your family may look forward to loadshedding more often.
