How many people does it serve?

This should be an easy question to answer, but in South Africa, it’s complicated, due to our colourful multi-cultural rainbow nation.

  1. In an Anglo Saxon household, each pizza/meal should feed between 4 to 6 guests.
  2. In a Mediterranean, Ethnic or African home it could feed as little as 1 to 3 people for a single meal as food needs to be experienced in large quantities.
  3. If you’re of Scandinavian extraction, each meal could last you a month!

Then we need to look at your emotional state, as that is a determining factor when dealing with quantities.

  1. Have you had a terrible day with your boss?
  2. Did you fight with your spouse?
  3. Are your kids driving you insane?
  4. Is your wi-fi slower than the Groot Trek?
  5. Is the lockdown getting to you?
  6. Did that hot guy from the gym eventually whatsapp you?
  7. How are you doing with those skinny jeans?
  8. Is your mother-in law doing what mother-in laws do?
  9. What season of Game of Thrones are you watching?

All these contributing factors could influence the amount you will choose to eat; Ranging from “just a slice/bite” to “call in the kitchen Calvary we’re going down babies”!

SHOPPING LIST

QUANTITIES OF INGREDIENTS

  • 1 x Château Gâteaux Passionate Lemon Cheesecake
  • 4 to 5 x grandilla, halved
  • ½ x cup toasted almond slivers
  • Dry lemon slices
  • 1 x cup honeycomb, crushed in large and small chuncks
  • 10 x gooseberries
  • 10 x blueberries. You can use frozen blueberries
  • 3 to 4 edible flowers, we are using pansies.

METHOD

  1. Defrost your cake as per the instructions on the box.
  2. Once the cake has thawed and you are ready to serve, make sure you have all your topping items next to you and ready to use,
  3. First we start with the honeycomb. We want to create a circular garland-like shape. Add the chunks in 4 places around the cake and then complete the circle with the small crushed pieces. Now you have a circle which will become the bases of your garland. Now you just add.
  4. Take 3 granadilla halves and place on top of the honeycomb. Make sure you spread them out.
  5. Now for some height, the dry lemon slices. About 5 to 6, all around the cake. You can buy them at stores but if you want to make them yourself go to the bottom of this recipe and we’ll tell you how. Very easy.
  6. Scatter the gooseberries and the blue berries for some colour. You will now see the garland forming beautifully. You’re nearly done.
  7. Add 3 to 4 edible flowers. We are using pansies. You can use any flowers but keep them in these hues, yellow, purple, light blue.
  8. Lastly, the toasted almonds, to fill in the gaps, enclosing your garland.
  9. If you want to serve pre-sliced you can do so by using all the toppings we have used in the above whole cake to dress each slice and plate. Have fun, there is no right or wrong.

Truly a cake for the Gods. Slice and enjoy! Interesting fact. Did you know that only is South Africa is the word granadilla used. In the rest of the world they call it passionfruit.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR SLICED DRY LEMONS/ORANGES

This is the easiest décor hack ever, you just need some time. Slice your lemons, oranges or limes into 1cm slices. Pre-heat your oven to 100 degrees.

Ensure that you’ve removed the oven rack from the oven prior to pre-heating the oven. Place all the slices directly onto the rack. Do not place on a tray or baking paper, as they will leak their juice and will burn, which in turn will burn the slices. Place in the oven for 2 to 2 and a half hours and allow to slowly dry out. The smaller slices might fall off the rack as they start cooking, so keep your eyes on them every 15 to 20 minutes.
